Coral SeaWomen's HealthPregnancy & birth
From preparing for pregnancy to welcoming your baby, Dr Berna Venter provides calm, experienced obstetric care shaped around you and your circumstances.

Continuity from the beginning
Pregnancy can be joyful, uncertain and sometimes overwhelming—all at once. Your appointments are a place to ask questions, understand your options and make informed decisions with an obstetrician who knows your story.
Your care plan and appointment schedule are tailored to your pregnancy. Visits generally become more frequent as you approach your due date, with additional review whenever you or your baby need it.
Review of your health, pregnancy history, early results and the screening choices available to you.
Regular checks of your wellbeing and your baby’s growth, with time to discuss symptoms, results and concerns.
Clear guidance about recommended blood tests, ultrasound scans and screening at the appropriate stage of pregnancy.
Practical conversations about your preferences, pain relief, feeding, recovery and what to expect at hospital.
When pregnancy is more complex
Some pregnancies need closer monitoring because of a maternal health condition, a previous pregnancy complication, concerns about your baby or an issue that develops during pregnancy.
Dr Venter has extensive experience managing complex obstetric care and will explain what additional monitoring is recommended, why it matters and how it may affect your birth plan. When broader expertise is needed, care is coordinated with the appropriate hospital and allied health teams.
Birth planning
There is no single “right” birth plan. Dr Venter will talk through your preferences alongside your medical and pregnancy history, including vaginal birth, caesarean birth, induction of labour and birth after a previous caesarean where appropriate. Plans remain responsive to the wellbeing of you and your baby.
Private deliveries are cared for at Mater Mothers' Private Townsville.
Before pregnancy
A pre-pregnancy consultation can help you review medications, health conditions, supplements, lifestyle factors, previous pregnancy experiences and any concerns before you start trying to conceive.
If you are experiencing difficulty becoming pregnant, Dr Venter can provide an initial assessment and discuss the most appropriate next step or referral.
